  THE CERAMICS OF FEZ
Conclusion

.In conclusion to this presentation of "fassi" pottery. It might be useful to give an outline of the main shapes and decorations used.
One visit to the Batha Museum should be enough to notice that the impressive ceramic production comprises two categories of objects :

......a) pratical objects which, as indicated by the semantics of their names, are used either to preserve fatty foods (butter, oil...) or for domestic purposes (plates, mokhfiya, various bowls or carafes etc...)for exemple :
......* Plates (ghtar) are subdivided into several types according to their depth and rim. Included in tifs were brought up to date by the addition of animal figures and more rarely human figures.
To give an idea of the vegetal decor, we will quote only the major motifs which are found in the local flora : lots of small dots are called the olive-stone or almond motif ; various arborescence in the form of columns or foliated scrolls of sweet marjoram (merdeddouche), jasmin (yasmin). not to forget the rosettes (named according to the number of their branches such as khmasiya (five) or lachriya (ten) etc...) finally the iris motif which decorates the bottom of large conical dishes (mokhfiya).
As for geometrical motifs, they are divided according to their cultural and religious origins, into columns (sariya), niches (Mirhabes) which we find in soup-bowls. The bottom of plates ins decorated with a check motif called "fels" (coin) or a semi-circle motif each called half a standard (Ness Elem).
Finally let us not forget the epigraphic motif where stylised coufic writing repeats in both directions the "al moulk" formula (divine universe) by joining two letters "kaf".
These are of course merely indications of the originality of Fez ceramics, in order to awaken the desire to visit the museums of the kingdom, so rich in ceramics.
