Sacred music
A space under creation
The Fes Festival continues to browse the vast spaces of chants and rhythms that the world cultures have created since early time within a troubled course of their many and unfulfilled spiritual quests.
It is following this sacred original, bound up with the myth as a foundation of any society that most of the directories of world sacred music have been built, regardless of their religion or ritual reference.
But the wheel of time does not only use and complete what is ready it also brings fortunately the new blood of regeneration and inventiveness.
Besides the music of the great sacred heritages, which are part of the intangible treasure of mankind and which should be preserved, make known and loved - and that the Fes Festival always takes pleasure to promote - this year we offer innovative and unexpected programs:
- "The Sacred Afro-American and Sufi Songs Night" will present an original encounter between the songs of Qawwali Sufi of Pakistan and melodious of Spirituals and American Gospel.
- "the 7 Last Words of Christ," with music by J. Haydn, to be played by the Ysaÿe Quartet, will be cadenced by the reading of a text of the great French philosopher Michel Serres.
Dancing will also be present this year, unfolding between tradition and modernity:
- "Panti Pusaka Budaya will present sacred dances of Bali";
- Belen Maya, the legendary flamenco dancer, will make us admire her modern and quasi contemporary approach of this fire dance coming from the Gypsies of Spain.
Starting with the legendary Jessye Norman and ending with the great African voice of Ismâèl Lô that will be accompanied by the singers of the Hamadchas brotherhood of Fez, this festival is intended to be a future transition more open on the present.
The Fes Festival’s objective for the coming years is to follow the ways of Creation, as world history has bequeathed it to us, but also to do creative work by causing new musical encounters, generating projects more sensitive to the energies and syntax ofour century, which are not by any means without spiritual charges, if we take the trouble to scrutinize them with the view that suits.
To become a truly creative space... Welcome to this fourteenth Fes Festival of World Sacred Music! |
